PSY GAMES Remote Viewing Training · 3DO Interactive Multiplayer

3DO INTERACTIVE MULTIPLAYER · CD-ROM

PSY GAMES on the 3DO is a near-complete conversion of the PlayStation edition of Remote Viewing Training, carried across with only slight downgrades. It keeps the original's full target set and all four modes, and it does something almost no 3DO release ever did: it supports the 3DO Mouse in every game mode.

01What this is

The 3DO build tracks the PlayStation version closely, on a 32-bit CD console. The same cyan terminal UI sits over a starfield, target photos are rendered as a duotone, and the whole loop is intact: pick a target code, sketch your impressions, reveal the photo, and grade yourself against the computer's read. Sessions are logged to the console's memory so your history survives between sittings.

03Controls & mouse support

The port plays with a standard 3DO control pad, using a cursor for drawing and the face buttons for everything else. What makes it unusual is full 3DO Mouse support, and not just on the sketch screen: the mouse works in every mode, from drawing impressions to holding gates in Men In Black, pinging a location in Search & Rescue, and picking statements in PSYOP, as well as navigating the menus. Mouse support was rare on the 3DO to begin with, and supporting it across an entire game like this is rarer still.

Why this matters Remote viewing is a drawing exercise, so a pointing device is the natural fit, the same reason the PlayStation build supports the PlayStation Mouse. Wiring the 3DO Mouse through every mode makes this one of the very few 3DO titles where a mouse drives the whole experience.

04How it compares to the original

The disc keeps every mode and the original's full target set; as a port of the PlayStation edition, it stays close to that version with only minor concessions to the hardware. The web app runs in full color at any resolution with touch or mouse. The 3DO renders to a 4:3 screen with duotone targets, saves to the console's internal memory, and carries its rarest feature forward: a mouse that works everywhere.
